The Sneaker Starter Kit includes a pair of rubber outsoles, footbed foam, lasting board, the sneaker pattern (one piece tongue pattern for women’s quilted sneakers), sole stitching needle, and disappearing ink pen. Our in-depth video provides a comprehensive walkthrough of the full build. You got this!

You will need fabric or leather (we recommend 1.5 to 2.0mm), shoe laces, glue, scissors, and thread.

This kit is awesome! I made my first pair of shoes and love them! Appreciate the video and the instructions and all the tools in the toolkit like the eyelets and thread and hole puncher. I went with all white sneakers and completed them over a weekend. I'll send you some photos. They look great and fit perfect.

To build your leather sneaker we find that a 2 sq feet or the equivalent of approximately 18″ x 22″, will be sufficient for the exterior of your shoe.

No, you don’t need shoe glue to make this leather shoe kit.  

You may find it easier to sew your upper to the outsole if it’s held in place with glue, double stick tape, needles or a locking pin.     

To make a sturdier and more supportive shoe we recommend a lasting board Strobel construction and glue.

No, you don’t need to pre-punch holes in the outsole.

The supplied awl needle easily pierces the rubber side wall.
You may find it helpful to mark your desired stitch length on a piece of masking tape attached to the outsole.

3 hours into the video you will see the channel stitching operation.

We have three options to suggest to get this curved heel assembled:
 
1. Create a curved heel seam by zig-zag stitching the exterior parts together and covering with a section of flattened binding tape. 
 
2. Create a curved heel seam by adding 1/4″ seam allowance on the heel line of exterior parts. Join the parts with the wrong side of the fabric facing out. Turn out the seam, then cover with a section of binding tape or lining material cut according to the back tab pattern piece (add 1/4″ seam allowance to long sides, press it under, and sew along long sides). You may need to use some glue to hold it in place while sewing.
 
3. Combine the pattern and cut as one piece. Zig-zag stitch the bottom 1/2″ of the seam to create the curve. The zig-zag will be hidden below the outsole edge.
