The Upper may be steamed to ease the force lasting operation. This operation is usually done by hand with a large shoehorn. Once the last in inside the upper a mechanical heel lasting machine is often used to make sure the upper is fully seated. Afterward, a cooling operation is then used to shrink the upper tight to the last.
